According to reports from the Clarion-Ledger, two children, ages 1 and 3, were injured when someone shot into their car outside the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The female driver of the vehicle immediately brought them inside for treatment. One child was shot in the leg, and the other in the torso; they are alive, but their condition is unknown at this time.
The Jackson Police Department issued an active shooter text alert around 4:42 p.m. as a safety precaution, however, this is no longer considered an active shooter situation.

#JPD is investigating a shooting in the 2500 block of N. State St. It is confirmed that two small children were injured after shots were fired into a vehicle. Current condition is unknown. Suspect is driving an unknown dark colored vehicle. No additional info available.

According to UMMC spokeswoman Ruth Cummins, the investigation is being handled by U.S. Marshals and the JPD.
