According to a report by WWL Radio, a 28-year-old prison inmate died this morning. On Saturday, the unidentified male inmate had suffered a medical issue in his cell and was found unresponsive just after lunch on Saturday. Prison security and medical staff immediately initiated lifesaving treatment and continued until EMS arrived. The inmate was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

The sheriff’s office told WWL that there were no signs that the inmate had been in a fight or that he had harmed himself. He had been in jail for at least a year on an attempted murder charge.

An investigation is underway.
