The Jesuits’ U.S. Central and Southern Province released a list of 42 members and priests credibly accused of abuse on Friday. Seventeen of the individuals named have ties to New Orleans.
According to The Advocate, the individuals have ties to area institutions like Loyola University, Jesuit High School, and Immaculate Conception Church. At least eleven of the individuals named were not included in lists released recently by the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
The list covers the past 63 years, and fall into three categories, according to the statement.
- Jesuits from this province who have credible claims of sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult made against them;
- Jesuits from other provinces who have credible claims as a result of their work while assigned to this province;
- Jesuits from this province whose names have previously been published.
While many of the men listed only have a single allegation against them, 17 of them have more than one (these aren’t necessarily the same 17 with ties to New Orleans.
