Nancy Pelosi: Speaker Once Again

On a day when the historic 116th Congress – made up with over 100 new female representatives – took to work, Nancy Pelosi regained the gavel for the second time as Speaker of the House.

Pelosi was re-elected with 220 votes, while 12 Democrats voted for other candidates like Stacey Abrams and John Lewis.

The following are highlights from her speech:

“When our new members take the oath, our Congress will be refreshed and our democracy will be strengthened by their optimism, idealism and patriotism of this transformative freshman class. Congratulations to all of you in the freshman class. Working together we will redeem the promise of the American dream for every family, advancing progress for every community,”

“We have no illusions that our work will be easy and that all of us in this chamber will always agree, but let each of us pledge that when we disagree, we respect each other and we respect the truth,”

The House plans on working toward re-opening the Government, and one representative has even opened articles of Impeachment against President Trump.

Suffice to say, this Congress is fired up.
