If you notice a dark plume of exhaust coming from the Carrollton Water Plant today, don’t panic. It’s just a test.
In a press release, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWB) announced that the exhaust will be released during a test run of Turbine 5 to see if it can run on diesel fuel. The test is being conducted by General Electric Co.
The SWB Environmental team will be on site observing the testing and the NOFD has been notified.
According to the press release, this is a continuation of testing that was begun in May of 2018, but was suspended to ensure the turbine would be available for use during the hurricane season.
