Parking restrictions on neutral grounds and sidewalks will be suspended as of 12 p.m. Sunday, April 7 through Monday, April 8th at 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, widespread thunderstorms are expected across the Greater New Orleans area on Sunday. Some of those storms could become severe, with damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain associated with these storms may result in localized flash flooding.
According to a statement released by the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is communicating closely with the National Weather Service to monitor the weather situation. In addition, the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Boars and the Department of Public Works are making preparations. Vacuum trucks and crews have begun clearing catch basins, and residents are encouraged to call 3-1-1 to report any clogged drains.
Residents are encouraged to help prepare their home and neighborhood ahead of these storms by:
- Removing debris from downspouts and gutters
- Clearing debris from local catch basins
- Pruning back trees and shrubs
- Bringing outdoor decorations and furniture inside
- Securing and bringing garbage bins indoors
It is also a good idea to keep any cell phones and extra batteries charged and in a safe, easily accessible location, along with any important documents and medical prescriptions.
