A large fire broke out at the Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, flames and billowing smoke could be seen coming from the top of the cathedral, with flames visible from the two bell towers.

Paris authorities have confirmed that the spire of the cathedral has collapsed, and nothing of the building’s wooden frame is expected to remain.
Addressing the tragedy, President Trump tweeted the following:
So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!

French authorities have stated that while they have the capability to use aerial water tankers, it would likely cause more damage to the structure with this type of fire.
