On Wednesday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced that all school zone cameras throughout the city will pause traffic control operations beginning 4:45 pm on Friday, May 24, 2019.
While the cameras will not be operational for traffic control purposes, the New Orleans Police Department and other law enforcement will continue to have access to the video as needed.
According to Mayor Cantrell, in the absence of a single Orleans Parish School board calendar, her office will gather the individual school calendars to determine the date that the cameras will be re-activated as traffic control devices. That announcement will come later this summer.
