Another work week has come and gone, which means it’s time for the Progressive’s Weekend! There are lots of events this weekend celebrating on the progressive and inclusive culture of New Orleans. Here are a few of our favorites:

This year’s Bastille Day Block Party may have been delayed due to Hurricane Barry, but that won’t stop us now! Come out and celebrate Bastille Day a little late in the neighborhood of French Creole aristocracy! There will be food and beverage vendors, an arts market, two bands, and a costume contest to find the best Napoleon Bonaparte or Marie Antoinette.

In honor of July being National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, the National Alliance on Mental Health – New Orleans chapter presents this free mental health festival. Come out and enjoy free snoballs from Machine Lady Concessions, food specials from Tasty Treat Food Truck, a resource fair and more.

Sunday, July 28
Broad Overpass Bike Lane Cleanup – 4 pm to 6 pm
Join Bike Uneasy and other volunteers in helping to keep our city’s bike lanes safe. This is part two of Bike Uneasy’s “do the city’s job to prevent cyclist death” series. Sunday’s event will focus on the Broad Overpass, clearing car wreckage, debris, and broken Bollards from the bike lane. Bring a broom or shovel and your work gloves.
Medicare for All Canvass – 5 pm to 7 pm
Every month, the New Orleans Democratic Socialists of America’s Health Care Committee canvasses different neighborhoods to talk about Medicare for All. Everyone is welcome to join.
Women of New Orleans Music: Arsene Delay at Siberia Lounge – 6 pm to 9 pm
Siberia Lounge is featuring a different woman musician each Sunday night as part of their summer concert series! This week’s artist is Arsene Delay. Come out and hear some great music!
No matter how you choose to spend your weekend, remember – every weekend can be a progressive weekend! We hope that these suggestions will help you make the most of yours.
