(Metairie, LA) – On Tuesday, December 17, 2019 – the night before the U.S. House of Representatives votes to impeach Donald Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors – activists will gather at 110 Veterans Boulevard as part of the nationwide “Nobody Is Above the Law” rallies. The rally in Metairie will be one of 500 events occurring nationwide in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The mobilization is part of a massive, grassroots effort to ensure Congress holds Donald Trump accountable for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections. We are demanding that the House of Representatives fulfill its constitutional duty by impeaching Donald Trump and that the Senate remove him from office for attempting to rig the 2020 elections. Congress must show that no one—not even the occupant of the Oval Office—is above the law.
Metairie Indivisible is hosting the peaceful vigil on the public sidewalk in front of the offices of Congressman Steve Scalise. Over 300 local activists have signed up to attend the event. They are encouraged to make signs and bring flashlights to “shine a light” on the corruption of the Trump administration.
Activists will use #NotAboveTheLaw to engage communities on social media. Information about other events can be found at Impeach.org. The link to the event in Metairie is here.
