As the 2020 U.S. Senate race in Louisiana heats up, Democratic challenger Antoine Pierce today secured a major endorsement from a candidate on a national scale.
On June 11, 2020, former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang’s nonprofit, Humanity Forward, tweeted their support for Mr. Pierce’s campaign to unseat conservative Senator Bill Cassidy.
We are proud to endorse @AntoinePierce for Senate in Louisiana! At heart, Antoine is an activist and community organizer. He’s a non-profit leader and lover of the arts. As a student of MLK’s work, Antoine has been an advocate for UBI since his school days. Let’s fight for him! pic.twitter.com/ttheiSQ2vz

Humanity Forward cited Mr. Pierce’s commitment to a universal basic income as well as his role as a community leader and organizer in making their endorsement.
Shortly after, Andrew Yang, who has over 1,500,000 followers on Twitter, retweeted the endorsement. Mr. Yang replied, “Excited for your campaign Antoine!”
Andrew Yang received a cult-like following in his recent presidential bid, which centered around giving every American a $1,000 “freedom dividend” each month. Antoine Pierce is running on a comprehensively progressive platform, including: Medicare for All, raising the minimum wage, ending the student debt crisis, legalizing cannabis, universal Pre-K education, and overturning the Citizens United decision.
My top priorities as U.S. Senator:
Universal Healthcare/MFA
Protect women’s rights
Raise the minimum wage
Election protection
Relieve student debt
Middle class tax cut
Universal Pre-K
Criminal Justice Reform
Cannabis legalization
Environmental protection

Mr. Pierce has been vocal about calls to end qualified immunity for police and redirect their funding for social services. He also marched in Baton Rouge in support of George Floyd.
So honored to step forward as one of the leaders this peaceful protest today. We must organize and mobilize others to tackle the tough challenges of racism and injustice. #NoJusticeNoPeace pic.twitter.com/0jh4NAgmZ0

Senator Cassidy, on the other hand, has only made vague calls for police accountability, and he took pains to criticize the protesters as much as the police.
Mr. Pierce has asked Senator Cassidy for a debate, but Cassidy has failed to respond to the request.
Despite this, Antoine Pierce is optimistic about his campaign and steadfast in his dedication to progress. “This is not just a campaign, it’s a movement! We will not be denied,” he said.
