Bet on the Preakness Stakes: Naming This Year’s 5 Heaviest Favorites

In less than three weeks, the Preakness Stakes will surely not disappoint the horse racing community by bringing the final stage of the U.S. Triple Crown exhibition. After the Derby ended a redemption stint last week, the horses who impressively won have dominated the current Preakness Stakes odds ranking.

Popularly known as the race for the Black-Eyed Susans, the Preakness Stakes will highlight fourteen three-year-old colts on October 3, 2020, at Pimlico Park. Today’s Preakness Stakes line-up is impressive since the fans can expect returning horses who missed the Derby and the Belmont Stakes.

In line with this, the Preakness Stakes will indeed have the heavy favorites in the field. Since this racing event has the shortest course, the horses should expect a close and tight competition. To give you a little spice up, let’s know the big favorites, their 2020 Preakness Stakes odds, and their chances of being draped with a blanket of yellow flowers.

Authentic

What a way for Authentic to end his Kentucky Derby journey, earning the title, as this underdog immensely caused distress to the heavy favorite, Tiz The Law. After getting a slack starting position at the gate, Authentic dazzled an impressive speed at the start of the race. He maintained his pace and managed to get faster upon approaching the finish line.

After clinching the Kentucky Derby title, Authentic is now the heaviest favorite to win the Preakness Stakes title. His trainer, Bob Baffert, has also achieved a career-high in the Derby and accomplished six Derby champions. If this colt will repeat his Derby performance, there is no doubt that he can earn the Preakness Stakes title effortlessly.

Tiz The Law

After getting the biggest upset in the Kentucky Derby, Tiz The Law is still a favorite colt to win the Preakness Stakes title. Although his bid turns unlikely this time, his talent is probably one of the best in horse racing history. He almost took a huge leap in overcoming Authentic during the Derby, but Baffert’s horse is still determined to win in the nearing end.

Before taking his flight to the Churchill Downs, Tiz The Law was on a 4-0 record. He won four significant races, including the first Triple Crown segment, Belmont Stakes. Aside from that, he was also a superstar in many Derby-prep races, which is why he was the huge favorite in the Derby. Will he outlast Authentic in the Preakness rematch, or will his continuous disappointment lead him to lose all the way?

Mr. Big News

After finishing the Kentucky Derby in third place, Mr. Big News is now one of the heavy favorites to run in the Preakness Stakes. Like Authentic, many fans did not expect him to place as many colts are topping in the favorites chart. However, this colt built a solid connection with his jockey, Gabriel Saez, to showcase an impressive speed.

Before joining the Derby and sending his bid to the Preakness Stakes, Mr. Big News was an Oaklawn Stakes titleholder. Besides that, he also made significant placements in the Risen Star Stakes and Blue Grass Stakes. If he makes it in the Preakness Stakes, his racing form will be boosted even more.

Honor A.P.

John Shirreffs had the best time in his horse racing training career after Honor A.P. ended a fourth-place finish in the recently concluded Kentucky Derby. Today, this colt is heading to the Preakness Stakes to continue achieving prominent horse racing finishes. The Derby this year is perhaps the year of underdogs as Honor A.P. belongs to the said bracket.

Before joining the Triple Crown races,  Honor A.P. participated in significant Derby prep races, like San Felipe Stakes, where he landed in second place. Aside from that, he jousted at Santa Anita Derby, where he brought home the bacon. During the Shared Belief Stakes, he competed with the best colts and won second place.

Max Player

This colt finished in fifth place during the Kentucky Derby a few weeks ago. His placement made his bid to run in the upcoming Preakness Stakes, where he is seen as one for the top favorites. His claim to a place in the Derby is expected as Max Player has accomplished many significant races before the Run For The Roses.

His major accomplishments came from a title he won during the Withers Stakes. Aside from that, he participated at the Travers Stakes and won third place. During the Belmont Stakes, he competed against his Derby rivals and earned a third-place.

Takeaway

The top five finishers in the Kentucky Derby are now the heavy favorites to win the Preakness Stakes title. Remember that the Derby has a longer racecourse compared to the Preakness, and these horses will surely dazzle at Pimlico Park effortlessly. Don’t forget to keep track of these horse’s odds and lines because one of them might be hailed as this year’s Preakness Stakes hero.
