In breaking news, Donald Trump has been acquitted by the Senate of inciting an insurrection. In addition to Cassidy, all Senate Democrats and six other Republicans voted on conviction. The Republicans who voted included: Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, and Pat Toomey.
Bill Cassidy has been in the news lately for bucking what many of his constituents and party leaders wanted of him. Instead, of voting against Senate impeachment proceedings as the majority of Republican senators did, declaring that a non-sitting president cannot be impeached, Cassidy, along with six other Republican senators, voted to move forward, saying that it was constitutional. This has put him in the hot seat.
While many people have been critical of his vote, others have praised him for taking a principled stand, including Big Easy Magazine. As Cassidy says in one video, It is about our country, our Constitution, and our future.
The East Baton Rouge Republican Party has not been pleased with Cassidys vote, nor his honest stance of hearing all the facts before voting on the second impeachment of Donald Trump. In a resolution that censured Cassidy, they wrote, He does not represent the people of this state or the Republican Party. He represents himself and has joined with some of the most dishonest and disreputable forces in our country to be part of this despicable sham.
