Useful Tips for the First-Year Students

More often than not, we recommend a college education, and I will explain why.

It all depends on the further goal of the student, if it is employment – of Course College, if getting theoretical knowledge – university.

Nowadays, employers need specialists with practical skills, which are taught in college, while the bachelor degree in universities is devoted primarily to theory.

It is important to note that colleges promote the employment of their graduates: they advise them on how to get a college paper help, to write a proper resume, how to competently conduct an interview, and how to apply for a work permit. Every year, job fairs and introductions to potential employers are organized.

Of course, if your employer or career development will not be enough for your diploma, you will have the opportunity to continue your studies at university, full-time or part-time, while not interfering with the daily work.

Thus, summarizing all of the above, let us make the following conclusions about the advantage of studying in college:

  • Colleges offer a more varied number of programs, both in length and content.
  • For graduates of Russian schools, college is more convenient for successful study and integration into a new community;
  • College costs half as much as university tuition per year.
  • College provides more practically oriented training, while university provides theoretical training.
  • Colleges retrain university graduates, helping them gain the applied skills they need in the workplace.
  • College programs are more intense and do not miss classes.
  • College programs are always current and up-to-date.

When is the best time to apply for admission?

Answer: the general rule is that the earlier the better! Usually the documents are submitted one year in advance in the fall or early winter. In the case of Russian high school students, it is better to apply at the beginning of 11th grade. Most schools close enrollment almost a year in advance – in December, and some schools keep enrollment until March.

Each institution has its own admission requirements and you should ask the institution for details.

The happy freshman crosses the threshold of the university, which for the next few years will become his second home. Moreover, who is the boss in this house, and where should a new student turn with his numerous questions?

The main person in the university is, of course, the rector. He is like the captain of the ship; he governs the institution he is in charge of. Of course, not without his assistants – the friendly team of vice-rectors for academic, scientific, educational and administrative work. All these people are rather busy and students do not address them directly that often.

However, the first friend of a student is the dean of a faculty. What questions does he solve? The most pressing ones.

Academic leave:

It is given for a year and only once. Academic leave is taken if for health reasons or family reasons it is not possible to continue studying.

Academic Deficits:

The Dean Grants admission to exams, permission to retake exams, extension of the session – in general, helps all “tailgating” students (holders of failed credits, exams, and failed sessions).

Transfer to another specialty:

Yes, sometimes it happens that after a while a person realizes that he made a mistake with the choice of profession. Well, the dean can help solve this problem, too: he or she will advise where to apply, how to write an application, and just give good advice.

Free Attendance:

This form of education is not officially very welcome. Nevertheless, there are different situations: financial difficulties that force a student to combine work and study; health problems or other valid reasons. To obtain permission to attend classes freely, you need to contact the dean. He has the final say.

The dean does not do without assistants either. As a rule, he has two deputies: for teaching and educational work. Also on the course, each group has a curator. He can be remotely compared to the class teacher at school. However, he does not tutor with such enthusiasm, but only observes and, if necessary, guides. A mentor can give good advice and support in a difficult moment.

Almost every university has a trade union organization. How can it be useful to the student?

Distribution of financial aid:

Each department has its own trade unionist. He has information about all low-income and needy students. After each session, the committee meets to decide on the distribution of social scholarships and fringe benefits to students who have applied. It depends on the activity and persuasiveness of the faculty trade union whether a particular student will receive financial aid or not. The corresponding application must be submitted in advance to the chair of the trade union organization.

Distribution of vouchers:

It is the responsibility of the course instructor to inform students well in advance of the opportunity to go to the seaside on a discounted voucher and to tell them what they need to do to take advantage of this opportunity. The same applies to free tickets to cultural events.

All students who are active and creative should go to the student club. Here the talents will be directed in the right direction, as well as moral support and help. It is a place of bright communication and experience exchange. The seniors gladly answer the questions of the freshmen. They will tell you exactly where to go and in what cases it is customary to apply to your university.
