What Does U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy Mean Suggesting Infrastructure Like Roads and Bridges Are a Woman’s Problem?

In an interview Sunday morning on NBC’s Meet the Press, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy said infrastructure like roads and bridges is a “woman’s problem” because they do the shopping.

Cassidy appeared on the program to show his bipartisan support for President Joe Biden’s infrastructure legislation now pending in the U.S. Senate. “There’s lots to like here. It’s a good bill,” said Cassidy.

“If you go home and talk to constituents who are stuck in traffic for an hour and a half getting to work and an hour and a half getting home – three hours a day they don’t spend with their families – they want a bridge coming to a town near them,” Cassidy continued.

“My wife says that roads and bridges are a woman’s problem if you will,” explained Cassidy. “Because oftentimes it is the woman – aside from commuting to work- who’s also taking children to schools or doing the shopping. And the more time that she spends on the road, the  less time she spends doing things of higher value.”

Cassidy said that communities which are flooded or endangered, like Florida and the Louisiana coast, appreciate the resiliency piece. “If you put your finger in the air, you’ll feel a breeze in favor of the bill,” Cassidy added in support of this legislation.
