5 Tips on Using a Golf Rangefinder

Attempting to use golf rangefinders is not as easy as counting from 1 to 3. Honestly, it is not as easy as that. You may think beforehand that it is as easy as looking through your glasses. But it’s not that case at all, even when you have read through the manual.

Golf rangefinders are supposed to make things easier for you. But although the manual can only teach you so much, it couldn’t bring you so far. So in this article, we will tell you a couple of tips in using golf rangefinders so you can fully use yours to its greatest extent.

Familiarize yourself with your limitations.

You should update the rangefinder you have with the current map, hazard, and pin locations. Also, you should have the course preloaded first to make sure it’ll work the way it ought to.

To do this, we highly encourage you to do your own research. Not every golf club provides the mapping of their area, and to ensure that you wouldn’t be wasting time chasing after them for the map, research beforehand.

Practice makes perfect. So go and keep practicing.

No one really gets better at something unless they start practicing. After all, determination and consistent action often lead to perfection. But if you’re not planning to aim for perfection, at least aim for efficiency where you wouldn’t kid anyone around when you realize you are not familiar with the things you see at the club.

When you are at home, we highly suggest that you go over your rangefinders and manual and get the hang of how it works.

When plans A and B don’t work, there’s still plenty more in the English alphabet.

They say the third time’s a charm. But just in case you still couldn’t do it right that time, you don’t have to stress yourself too much about it. Just like anything, it takes time. If you failed at practicing at home, then keep practicing. You can even have someone with you to help you out!

If you have a friend who knows how to use a golf rangefinder, then that’s perfect. You can have someone who can teach you firsthand how things should be done or some newbie like you who can help you reflect.

Make use of your phone and its apps.

The purpose of golf rangefinders is to build a golfer’s confidence in knowing the distance of their goal. So if you haven’t learned how to effectively use it yet, then you can take your phone out and use it instead. Work smart, not hard.

If you are using an iOS device, there’s an app called Measure, where you can literally measure things easily. You can use it to know how far your goal really is.

Ensure that it is easily accessible.

Golf rangefinders aren’t convenient at all. You cannot easily bring them around because it’s nowhere compact. However, you can get used to it by making sure you’re wearing cargo pants or anything that allows you to bring it around constantly.

There are laser rangefinders that can fit on your regular pockets and even GPS ones that you can hang around your neck. But in case you don’t have that, wear cargo pants with huge pockets instead. Again, work smart, not hard.
