June 2021 Prices Up 9.1 Percent From Last Year
Inflation in the United States hit a new 40-year record last month, as prices skyrocketed 9.1 percent last month compared to June 2021. This is the fastest increase since 1981.
Gasoline, food, and shelter costs drove the changes in June. The increase was faster than expected as well.

Sri Lankan President Fled Country Amidst Protests
Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country on an Air Force plane over night, according to three immigration officials, in the middle of demonstrations, protests, and an economic crisis.
He appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the nation’s acting leader. Protestors though took the streets again Wednesday and surrounded the prime minister’s office.

Senate Confirms Biden’s ATF Pick
The Senate voted Tuesday to confirm President Joe Biden’s pick to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Steve Dettelbach. Senate last confirmed the ATF nominee in 2013.
Dettelbach is a former federal prosecutor. He also previously was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the US attorney for the Northern District of Ohio under former-President Barack Obama.
