Donald Trump Pleads the Fifth

Former President Donald Trump took the fifth during his deposition in a New York civil investigation into his business dealings, on the grounds that he may incriminate himself in a parallel criminal investigation.

“I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer to that question,” a statement released by Trump said.

US and China Clash on Ukraine

China has accused the US of being the “main instigator” of the conflict in Ukraine. During an interview on Russian state television, Zhang Hanhui, China’s ambassador to Moscow, said that the US of backed Russia into a corner by working to expand NATO and aligning Ukraine more with NATO than Moscow.

In return, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told his counterpart that China’s support of Russia in the conflict is straining US-Chinese relations.

Thousands have been evacuated from their homes as wildfires rage across France. More than 10,000 residents of the Gironde region in southwest France as the fires moved closer. In addition, the French government has begun calling on companies to ensure that employees who are also volunteer firefighters are available to relieve firefighters that have been working in the region throughout the summer.
