New York Gov. Declares Disaster Over Polio
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul issued an emergency declaration on Friday in an attempt to ramp up vaccination efforts for polio after the virus was detected in wastewater in four counties.
“On polio, we simply cannot roll the dice,” State Health Commissioner Mary Bassett said in a statement. “If you or your child are unvaccinated or not up to date with vaccinations, the risk of paralytic disease is real.”

Texas DPS Chief Col. Steven McCraw said on Thursday that he would fire any member of the Texas Department of Public Safety who did not do their job the day a mass shooter entered Uvalde Elementary, killing 19 children and two teachers. The statement is in direct contradiction to recorded notes from a meeting in August where McCraw told a gathering of agency captains that no one is losing their jobs [sic] over the botched law-enforcement response to the Uvalde school shooting.
