Things to Consider Before Moving to New Orleans

New Orleans, or NOLA, is famous for its vibrant nightlife, exciting music, and outstanding cuisine. It’s multi-cultural, which makes it instantly comfortable and welcoming to everyone. It’s also known for its festivities, including the most notable Mardi Gras. In addition, the city is an economic and commercial hub and has one of the busiest ports. All of these are enough to attract you to move to this city. However, there are things to consider before deciding to live permanently in the Big Easy, and we listed them below.

Explore the areas

There are 72 neighborhoods in the 13 districts of NOLA, although they are generally divided into three areas. These areas have unique vibes and characteristics, so check them to determine the best option to fit your lifestyle and preference. The first area is called the French Quarter and CBD. You will find historical places and architecture from the 18th century. It’s also where the business district is, so there are various businesses and commercial establishments, like casinos and hotels. Next, the Garden District Area will suit you if you want a quiet neighborhood. Finally, the Baywater Area is perfect if you want a vibrant vibe.

Know the universities and schools

If you have kids, schools and universities are essential things to consider. NOLA has one of the most numbers of universities and colleges in the US, and Tulane University is one of the most popular. Others include the University of New Orleans, Delgado Community College, and Loyola University New Orleans. Many of them have dorms where students can stay.

Check out different types of homes

There are also various home styles available, so see which fits your taste. For example, Creole cottages are characterized by shuttered windows and picket fences. There are also townhomes and centre-hall houses. If you want a modern style, there are bungalows in the city. Besides the style, ensure it’s the right size for your family. If you cannot get everything you want in a house, be flexible with things you can live with. For instance, if the only issue is the bathroom is tinier than you want, find ways to make it work. Go for a shower enclosure small quadrant option over a bigger cabin, which you can install in the corner to maximize space.

Know the festivals and celebrations

Since the city is known for its festivities, familiarize yourself with them before your move, so you don’t miss a thing and can join the fun. Besides Mardi Gras, there’s Oktoberfest, French Quarter Festival, and the Jazz Fest.

Don’t skip on the house inspection

Unless it’s a brand new home, it’s best to hire a professional for the house inspection to ensure you know what exactly you are getting. For instance, there might be hidden plumbing issues that even an enclosure with 700 x 700 shower tray will not properly drain. So, you must fix the problems before moving for a convenient stay.

New Orleans is a wonderful city to live in, but since purchasing a house and moving is a big decision, think it over to ensure you make the right choice.
