Supreme Court Back in Session
The US Supreme Court is back in session today, and back to welcoming the public into the courtroom. In this session, the court will oversee significant cases on voting rights, the way US elections are conducted, affirmative action, the Clean Water Act, and LGBTQ rights.
Already the court has had contentious arguments, with the majority-conservative justices expressing doubt over whether the Environmental Protection Authority actually has the power to protect the nation’s wetlands from pollution.

UN Chief Says World Is In “Life or Death Struggle” for Survival
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday that the world is in “a life-or-death struggle” for survival against climate change, and said that the 20 wealthiest countries in the world should be doing far more to stop it. Guterres made his point amid record flooding that left one-third of Pakistan underwater, Europe’s hottest summer in 500 years, and just days after Hurricane Ida left Puerto Rico, Cuba, and portions of Florida and South Carolina devastated.
