Biden Signs Respect for Marriage Act
In a move that reflects both his personal evolution, and the evolution of the country on same-sex marriage, President Joe Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law on Tuesday. The law recognizes same-sex marriage federally and protects same-sex marriage across state lines, even in states that have trigger laws making same-sex marriage illegal in the event the Supreme Court overturns Obergefell.
