Davis is running a grassroots, people-powered campaign to fight for the people of Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District—not the corporate donors buying out politicians so they can plunder Louisiana residents’ futures.

Thursday, July 18, 2024, Baton Rouge, LA — On Thursday, Devin Davis officially filed the paperwork and paid the fees in order to qualify for the congressional race in Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District.

If elected, Davis would be the youngest member of Congress at 27-years-old (Davis is 6 days younger than Florida Representative Maxwell Frost). He would also be the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress ever elected from the South.

After qualifying, Davis released the following statement:

“Today, we are officially launching a historic campaign. Not only to elect the next generation of leaders. Not only to elect the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from the South. But also to finally take back our future from the corporations and their bought out politicians who’ve spent my entire life plundering our resources and our potential.

I’m a child of Hurricane Katrina. I watched developers bulldoze Black communities to make way for white gentrifiers. I watched charters take over our school system to profit off our children. Even before Katrina, I watched my grandfather die from prostate cancer because he had to work at the Shell oil refinery his entire life. We suffer while the corporations profit and the politicians cash their checks.

My opponent has accepted over $500,000 from the fossil fuel industry, the insurance lobby, Entergy, and many more corporations. In a district that’s home to ‘Cancer Alley’, a home insurance crisis, and failing infrastructure, we need a leader who is willing to hold these corporations accountable – we need unbought leadership.

Louisiana’s culture is world-renowned. We are rich in natural resources. If we had a fighter for the people—not the corporate donors—in Congress, then our stretch of the Mississippi River could be the greatest place in America instead of consistently ranking last. Today marks the first official day of our fight for our future, a fight that we must win and we will win.”

Davis is running a grassroots, people-powered campaign to fight for the people of Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District, not the corporate donors buying our politicians so they can plunder our future. Davis’ platform focuses on bringing the home insurance crisis under control by holding insurance companies accountable and creating a federal insurance option, protecting South Louisiana from the climate crisis by kicking out the petrochemical industry and transitioning to wind and solar farms, as well as funding reparations for Cancer Alley communities, and championing campaign finance reform that prevents corporations from flooding Louisiana elections with money and hijacking the political process.
