Interested in watching Vice President Kamala Harris accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for president with a group of like-minded people? The Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee will host a DNC Watch Party on Thursday, August 22 to coincide with the live televised coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The party will be held at Oak & Ale, 8118 Oak Street from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.
“We are excited to offer this opportunity for New Orleanians to join us for this historic event,” said Leslie Bouie, OPDEC President. “This convention has rekindled hope for many Americans that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are prepared to lead America into the future.”
“The floor action at the DNC has been truly electrifying,” said State Rep. Delisha Boyd, a DNC delegate from Louisiana. “Together the speakers have set an uplifting tone that has resonated with everyone present, reaffirming our commitment to progress and inclusivity.”
OPDEC has reserved a space inside Oak & Ale on the left for the event. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Street parking is available as well as a pay-to-park lot behind the venue.
OPDEC also endorsed the Harris/Walz ticket as well as Congressman Troy Carter for re-election (LA-2), Mel Manuel for Congress (LA-1) as well as Donaldo Batiste and Eric Jones for seats on the Orleans Parish School Board. Batiste is running for re-election in District 4. Jones is seeking an open seat in District 2.
OPDEC, along with IWO, ACORN and SUNO, will host a discussion on Project 2025 on August 29 at 6 p.m. Speakers include Congressman Troy Carter, State Senator Joe Bouie, and OPDEC members Richard Perque and Michelle Erenberg, a reproductive rights advocate. The event will take place at the MillIe M. Charles School of Social Work Auditorium on SUNO’s Campus.
