Women With A Vision (WWAV), a pioneering organization that has championed racial justice, public health, and reproductive rights for over three decades, is preparing to host its second annual Rollin’ for Reproductive Justice event. This fundraiser aims to rally community members and supporters for an evening of Halloween-themed fun while raising vital funds for WWAV’s essential reproductive justice programs.
The event, taking place on October 30th, 2024, at Airline Skate Center in Metairie, Louisiana, invites attendees 18 years and older to join in a night of skating, celebration, and solidarity. Rollin’ for Reproductive Justice is more than just a chance to gather; it’s a powerful opportunity for the community to come together and raise awareness about the challenges and injustices women continue to face under restrictive laws.
“Rollin’ for Reproductive Justice is our chance to get the community together in a fun, celebratory space while raising money for our reproductive justice program,” shared Deon Haywood, Executive Director of Women With A Vision. “We live under these draconian laws that stand between us and our ability to do what we think is right with our bodies. And yet, we persist. We need nights like this to celebrate how we as a community continue to show up for each other regardless of the tomfoolery that has pregnant folks worried that their doctors won’t be able to provide lifesaving care.”
WWAV has been at the forefront of advocating for Black women, girls, and other marginalized communities since its founding in 1989. Emerging during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, the organization has expanded its mission to address broader issues of reproductive justice, sex workers’ rights, and the criminalization of Black women in the South. Today, WWAV remains a vital force for human rights, working tirelessly to end mass incarceration and protect voting rights.
The Rollin’ for Reproductive Justice event not only promises a night of skating fun but also underscores the importance of continued advocacy in the face of ongoing threats to reproductive freedom.
