EVENT: Martin Luther King Jr Day Rally and March MLK Day protest against Trump to Fight the Racist Trump Agenda!

(New Orleans , LA)  — On Monday, January 20th, MLK Day protest against Trump for Community Oversight of Police (NOCOP) will lead a rally and march to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and protest the upcoming presidency of Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated the same day. The demonstration will begin at A.L Davis Park and conclude with a march through the surrounding neighborhood, including down Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Those organizing the march and rally chose January 20th to highlight the importance of following the example set by Dr. Martin Luther King and standing up to the “racist, xenophobic, anti-worker, anti-women, anti-queer, and imperialist agenda” that will come during the upcoming Trump presidency. Key demands of the march organizers include: community control of police and an end to racist policing; the protection of women’s, LGBTQ, and reproductive rights; a free Palestine and an end to US aid to Israel; legalization for all immigrants and an end to attacks in immigrants; and the protection of the rights to unionize and strike. The march organizers hope to inspire the MLK Day protest against Trump community with Dr. King’s teachings, noting that King “taught that our movements for peace, our fights against racial oppression, and the struggle for unions and dignity in the workplace are all part of a singular fight for justice.”

This rally and march will have contributions from a broad coalition of community organizations, all of which are committed to fighting for progressive policy through mass mobilization. Participating organizations include MLK Day protest against Trump Community Oversight of the Police (NOCOP), New Orleans Stop Helping Israel’s Ports (NOSHIP), Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), Loyola Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), UNO SDS, Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Muslims for Just Futures, Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), Union Migrante, Starbucks Workers United NOLA (SBWU), New Orleans City Workers Organizing Committee (NOCWOC), New Orleans Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), Victory Over Louisiana Violence, NOLA Renters Rights Assembly, New Orleans Queer and Trans Community Action Project (QTCAP), and Sunrise Movement New Orleans.
