Bywater Bakery King Cake is kicking off carnival season with its 9th annual King Cake celebration on Saturday, Jan. 25, combining the city’s love for music, community, and sweet treats. This year’s event, which benefits the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, promises an exciting lineup of performances and a variety of king cake options for attendees to enjoy.

The festivities will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with live music beginning at 11 a.m.. A star-studded lineup of performers will take the stage, including Soul Brass Band, Ram of Haiti, N.O. Klezmer Allstars, Leyla McCala & Louis Michot, and a supergroup of New Orleans legends featuring Deacon John, John Boutte, David Torkanowsky, Kirk Joseph, Charmaine Neville, Detroit Brooks, Wessell “Warm Daddy” Anderson, Glen David Andrews, and a surprise special guest.

A Sweet and Savory Celebration

Bywater Bakery King Cake will showcase its signature king cakes, including fan favorites such as Traditional Carnival, Azul Dulce Blueberry, Bourbon Cinnamon (vegan), Chantilly, and Pecan Praline. New to the menu this year is the Frangipane king cake, featuring house-baked brioche filled with sweet almond cream.

For those with a savory palate, the bakery’s savory king cakes will also be available, including varieties filled with Crawfish, Boudin, or Spinach Artichoke, all topped with garlic bread and parmesan cheese.

Half of all king cake slice sales from the event will be donated to the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, supporting its mission to nurture and inspire young musicians in the community.

More Than Just Cake

In addition to king cakes, Bywater Bakery King Cake will offer a full bar and a selection of food options, including a Yaka-mein Station, dishes from Origen Bistro, and, weather permitting, boiled crawfish provided by Seithers Seafood.

Guests are encouraged to pre-order whole king cakes through the bakery’s website, as demand is expected to be high. Whole cakes and slices will also be available for purchase throughout the carnival season, which concludes on Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, March 4.
