As the Crescent City prepares to host Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9, the NFL is bringing the spirit of New Orleans to life with an array of cultural and artistic displays throughout the city. From dazzling light shows to immersive photo opportunities, the city will become a canvas celebrating football and local heritage.
Showcasing Local Culture
The NFL has collaborated with local artists and organizations to create unique experiences that highlight New Orleans’ rich history and vibrant community. “We’re thrilled to bring Super Bowl LIX to life through the culture, creativity, and community that make New Orleans one of a kind,” said Marissa Solis, NFL senior vice president of global brand and consumer marketing.
Key installations include a Caesars Superdome Light Show, a St. Louis Cathedral Projection Show, larger-than-life murals, and iconic Super Bowl-themed displays around the city.
Spectacular Light Shows
Starting February 1, the Caesars Superdome Light Show will illuminate the night sky with over 25 million lux of light, using 67 phosphorous lighting fixtures encircling the Superdome. The nightly display will run from dusk to dawn, offering fans a one-of-a-kind visual experience.
In Jackson Square, the St. Louis Cathedral Projection Show will commence on February 2 at 6:30 p.m. This dazzling presentation will feature designs from renowned local artists like Becky Fos, Terrance Osborne, and George Rodrigue, set to a soundtrack inspired by the city’s jazz, blues, and rock roots. Projections will be displayed on the Cathedral, Cabildo, and Presbytère every 30 minutes, transforming the historic landmarks into a dynamic celebration of Super Bowl LIX.
Immersive Art and Photo Opportunities
Football fans can explore Super Bowl-themed photo displays in Jackson Square and outside Caesars New Orleans, starting January 30. A standout piece is a 50’ x 200’ Vince Lombardi Trophy building wrap by artist Tahj “Queen Tahj” Williams, featured on the NFL Headquarters hotel, the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.
Additionally, Super Bowl Opening Night, on February 3, will showcase players at interview podiums designed to replicate New Orleans’ iconic row house porches, blending the game’s excitement with the city’s architectural charm.
Mural Projects and Lighting the City
More than a dozen murals created by local artists will adorn downtown New Orleans, reflecting the city’s creativity and spirit. This initiative, supported by GNO Inc. and local partners, aims to transform blank walls into vibrant displays of culture and inspiration.
Throughout Super Bowl week, the Crescent City Connection will also be lit in celebratory colors, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
A Unique Super Bowl Experience
Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, emphasized the importance of highlighting the city’s unique heritage during the celebrations. “This breathtaking illumination will celebrate our city’s rich beauty and history,” she said, referencing the St. Louis Cathedral projections and their connection to the Our City, Our Cathedral preservation campaign.
Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser added, “This will make Super Bowl week that much more special.”
