This April, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra presents a series of concerts in various neighborhoods around New Orleans. Audiences are invited to experience live orchestral music in settings ranging from City Park to the concert hall with the final concerts of LPO’s Happy Hour and Market Nights series, an engaging Musical Storytime for kids, a classical music extravaganza featuring works by Mahler and Schubert, and the beloved Swing in the Oaks concert free for the community in City Park. Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae
A musical experience for the family, Musical Storytime returns to City Park with a live reading of Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae, with musical accompaniment by LPO trombonist Austin Richardson. This event lasts approximately 30 minutes and is a perfect way for young music lovers to engage with entertaining stories in a whole new way.

LPO’s highly popular Market Nights comes to a close for the 2024-25 season with special guest artist and lead guitarist of The Revivalists, Zack Feinberg. The evening’s concert features Feinberg’s original songs from his debut album, Call It a Miracle, which will be released on April 25th. Audiences are invited to arrive early for a pre-concert experience in the lobby with a live DJ set by New Orleans’ own ANTWIGADEE!, cocktails, and light bites by NOLA Luv Catering.

LPO Music Director Matthew Kraemer returns to the podium to lead a program featuring timeless works by two of classical music’s most renowned composers with Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B minor and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (Song of the Earth). Guest soloists include mezzo-soprano Olga Perez Flora and tenor James Flora making their LPO debuts.

The LPO and City Park return to present the free annual Swing in the Oaks: City Park. Student musicians from LPO’s flagship music mentorship program LPO Academy begin the evening with a side-by-side performance with LPO musicians followed by a program of orchestral favorites. Audiences are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and their picnic set-ups for a beautiful evening under the oaks. As a sweet treat, Creole Creamery will be on-site to distribute 1,000 free scoops of ice cream on a first come, first served basis.
