As the temperatures rise and the days stretch long into the evening, summer in New Orleans takes on a rhythm all its own. From spicy crawfish boils to street parades and frozen cocktails under the stars, the city comes alive in ways only New Orleans can. Whether you’re a local looking to savor every moment or a visitor hoping to experience something unforgettable, here’s your ultimate 2025 New Orleans summer bucket list.

Catch a Legendary Crawfish Boil

Nothing screams summer in Louisiana like a pile of steaming, spicy crawfish. This is the tail end of the season, so now’s the time to dig in. Deanie’s Bucktown serves up some of the best in town, or head to Seither’s Seafood in Harahan for a backyard-style boil with all the fixings. Prefer a party with your peel? Check out pop-up boils at bars across the city—it’s a classic NOLA mash-up of beer, music, and mudbugs.

Dance at an Outdoor Festival

New Orleans knows how to celebrate, and summer is packed with outdoor festivals where you can dance until sunset. New Orleans PrideFest, Creole Tomato Festival and New Orleans Wine & Food Experience all happen in June. ESSENCE Festival returns to the Superdome and Convention Center July 4th weekend, bringing iconic headliners and empowering talks. Tales of the Cocktail is also returning to the French Quarter July 20-25. And you can’t forget Southern Decadence Labor Day weekend.

Sip Frozen Cocktails on a Rooftop

When the heat hits hard, New Orleanians cool down with a frozen French 75 or a classic daiquiri. Try the frozen cocktails at Hot Tin, a rooftop bar atop the Pontchartrain Hotel with panoramic views of the Mississippi River and the city skyline. Ingenue on top of the Troubadour Hotel is another vibrant spot for frozen drinks, food trucks, and photo ops. For a more laid-back experience, Bacchanal in the Bywater offers backyard wine sipping with live music every night.

Snoball Crawl Through the Neighborhoods

Forget snow cones, New Orleans snoballs are an art form. Try classic flavors like nectar cream or go wild with condensed milk, gummy bears or get it stuffed with soft serve ice cream. Hansen’s Sno-Bliz on Tchoupitoulas is the gold standard, but don’t overlook spots like Sal’s in Metairie or Pandora’s in Mid-City. Grab a group, map out your route, and turn it into a snoball crawl with stops in every neighborhood.

Float Down Bayou St. John

There’s no better way to chill than kayaking or paddleboarding along Bayou St. John. Rent a vessel from Bayou Paddlesports and drift past the beautiful homes of Faubourg St. John while catching a breeze off the water. Pack a picnic, or tie up and relax along the Lafitte Greenway. It’s peaceful, scenic, and uniquely New Orleans.

Join a Summer Second Line

Though second line parades are more common in the fall, summer still has its share of impromptu brass band marches and neighborhood celebrations. Follow local social clubs on Instagram or check out WWOZ’s Livewire calendar to catch a community second line or block party. Bring water, dance shoes, and your best umbrella.

Watch Fireworks Over the River

Cap off your summer with the Go 4th on the River celebration on July 4th. Fireworks light up the Mississippi River, and you can watch from Woldenberg Park, the riverwalk, or aboard a paddlewheeler cruise. It’s a dazzling display and the perfect finale for your New Orleans summer adventure.

From crawfish to cocktails, music to moments on the water, New Orleans in the summer is a celebration of everything that makes the city unforgettable. Just don’t forget your sunscreen and sense of adventure.
