Book lovers in New Orleans East will have a new reason to head to the library next month. On Saturday, June 21, the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library will bring their popular used book sale to the East New Orleans Regional Library at 5641 Read Blvd. The one-day indoor sale will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering thousands of gently used books at bargain prices.
Organized by the longtime nonprofit dedicated to supporting the city’s public libraries, the event promises a wide range of books for all ages and interests. Shoppers can expect to find everything from children’s stories and biographies to romance novels, cookbooks, travel guides, and local-interest titles—all priced to move. Most titles will be $4 or less, with children’s books starting at just $2.
“This sale is a perfect opportunity to stock up on summer reading material for less while supporting the library,” said Shannan Cvitanovic, executive director of Friends of the New Orleans Public Library. “We’ll have something for everyone.”
The organization has been supporting the New Orleans Public Library system since 1957, funding key programs such as the Summer Fun & Reading Challenge and helping ensure equitable access to books and educational resources across the city. All proceeds from the sale will go directly toward supporting these initiatives.
Cvitanovic advises eager readers to come prepared. “The best advice I can give you is to bring your own big tote bag,” she said. “You’ll come for a few books for your kids, but will end up with a cookbook, a travel guide, a novel you had been meaning to read, and a few other things that you didn’t even know you needed.”
The sale accepts cash, credit cards, and Venmo. Updates about the event will be posted on the group’s social media pages at @friendsnola and on their website, www.friendsnola.org.
This marks a continued effort by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library to reach more neighborhoods across the city by hosting pop-up sales in different library branches.
