Congregation Coffee Roasters is bringing its locally roasted brews to Uptown with the grand opening of a brand-new café at the corner of Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue. The new location, situated at 900 Jefferson Avenue, officially opens to the public this Thursday, July 24, and will operate Thursday through Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with plans to extend hours in the fall.
The new café will serve Congregation’s popular signature blends, rotating single origin coffees, and freshly bagged beans for home brewing. Guests can also enjoy a curated selection of breakfast pastries from the Ralph Brennan Bakery, alongside branded merchandise.
This expansion marks a new chapter for Congregation Coffee since Patrick Brennan acquired the business in 2023 from founder Eliott Guthrie. Brennan has already reopened the flagship café in Algiers Point and plans to launch a third location in the French Quarter later this year.
“After many successful years with our Algiers Point café and continued growth in our wholesale business, we’re excited to continue expanding Uptown for an opportunity to serve additional New Orleans neighbors,” said Brennan. “Our goal is to expand with intention and never sacrifice on outstanding quality.”
Congregation roasts all of its beans at its Tchoupitoulas Street facility, where head roaster Zoe Underhill leads the operation. Underhill, who began as a barista in 2018, now oversees the roasting process and green coffee selection. Over the last 12 months, the team has roasted more than 28,500 pounds of beans.
The company’s wholesale business has also seen significant growth, securing partnerships with major hotels like the Omni Royal and Hotel Monteleone, renowned restaurants like Brennan’s and Junebug, and grocery outlets including Dorignac’s and Whole Foods Market.
Patrons at the Magazine Street café can expect to find the full range of Congregation’s signature blends:
High Walk – A balanced, nutty morning blend with medium body
Gallop – A versatile espresso with milk chocolate and nutty notes
Low Walk – A rich, smooth decaf option
Spots – A bold, dark roast for those who prefer a robust flavor
Tail Walk – A chicory blend bridging traditional New Orleans style with modern roasting
Kerinci, Sumatra – A single-origin offering with notes of candy, citrus, and spice
