WHEN:       Wednesday, July 30, 2025

WHY:  Now in its 19th year of operation, NOWCS is the only homeless shelter for intact families (including fathers) and one of the largest shelters for women and children in the region. Since 2007, NOWCS has assisted more than 4,700 parents and children recovering from homelessness with physical shelter, programs and support services. More than two-thirds of the people served have been children.

“At the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter, we believe every child deserves to start the school year prepared and confident. For families experiencing homelessness, the burden of school supplies can be overwhelming,” said Dawn Bradley-Fletcher, CEO. “We’re not just filling backpacks — we’re giving children the tools to take pride in their education. Every pencil, notebook and uniform are a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty.”
