October 22nd at 4 PM families are rallying at city hall on the National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality to demand accountability from the NOPD’s Public Integrity Bureau for failing to hold its officers accountable. The families supported by The New Orleans Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression and others are demanding that the NOPD fire officer Victor Gant for corruption and misconduct and detective Rob Barrere for negligence.

One mother Sister Shanta holds Victor Gant responsible for obstruction of justice and corruption after he broke NOPD protocol to help his son Andrew Gant escape accountability for killing her son Jace Lee Scott.

The Alliance is demanding that the city council hold a public hearing to look into NOPD misconduct and corruption.

Another mother Sean Coleman is angry at NOPD’s homicide division after they categorized her son Junious Colemen’s death as a suicide. Ms. Coleman fears her son’s death was a homicide and fears the NOPD has neglected her son’s case.

With the end of the consent decree imminent, the families are demanding a Civilian Police Accountability Council to be established as a form of oversight over the NOPD.
