Emergency Rally Planned in New Orleans Calling for ICE and Border Patrol to Leave the City

A coalition of local and national advocacy groups is organizing an emergency protest in New Orleans demanding that ICE and Border Patrol withdraw from the city. The rally and march are scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 12 p.m. in Lafayette Square, according to the organizers’ announcement.

The event frames itself as a direct response to what participating groups describe as “Trump and Landry’s racist agenda,” calling for an end to deportations, full legalization for migrants, and community control of local policing. Organizers argue that any collaboration between New Orleans law enforcement and federal immigration agencies threatens immigrant communities and undermines public trust.

The rally is backed by a broad network of groups involved in immigrant rights, racial justice, and left-wing political organizing. Logos on the promotional material indicate participation from organizations such as SDS (Students for a Democratic Society), FRSO (Freedom Road Socialist Organization), PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation), Critical Mass NOLA, NO-SHIP, and several local community coalitions. Each group brings its own focus—ranging from student mobilization to abolitionist frameworks to grassroots immigrant defense—but they are united in opposing the presence of federal immigration enforcement in the city.

Organizers say the march aims to highlight solidarity with undocumented residents and emphasize that New Orleans should remain a place of refuge. The event will feature speeches, outreach efforts, and a public march through the CBD, urging residents to join the call for ending deportations and cutting ties between local police and federal immigration agencies.

The coalition behind the protest is encouraging broad community turnout and is positioning the event as part of a larger national movement resisting expanded immigration enforcement.
