Super Bowl LX will roll around on Sunday, February 8, pitting the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots in a matchup that few saw coming. The big game takes place at Levi’s Stadium, with NBC having this year’s television broadcast.
But how did we get here? And what’s the lowdown on the two teams? Who’s favored to win? Let’s take a look at all you need to know before the NFL’s climax occurs:
What’s the story?
This has been dubbed the Underdog Super Bowl, reflecting the fact that both the Patriots and Seahawks were highly unfavored at the beginning of the season. Both teams made a mockery of such predictions, and nobody is claiming that they don’t deserve to be in the Super Bowl.
Tale of the tape?
Both teams finished the season with 14-3 records, the best in the NFC and AFC respectively. The Seahawks did grab the No.1 seed in the NFC, whereas the Patriots lost out to the Broncos, despite having the same record.
Playoff credentials?
The Patriots’ run through the playoffs was controlled and measured, beating the Chargers, Texans and Broncos by adapting each time to the styles of different opponents. The Seahawks had a spectacular run through the two playoff games for the No. 1 seed, absolutely smashing the 49ers in the Divisional Round and coming through an all-time classic against the Rams in the NFC Conference Final.
Who’s favored to win?
The Seahawks are moneyline favorites with DraftKings NFL betting, tagged at 4.5 points to cover the spread. We wouldn’t read too much into that, though, as recent Super Bowls have gone the way of the betting underdog. Moreover, the 2025 season was characterized by shock results. This is as hard to call as any recent Super Bowl.
Why the Seahawks might win?
More weapons. Offensive coordinator has turned quarterback Sam Darnold into an elite attacking force, backed up by weapons like Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp. But the defense is also elite. They can be both dogged and patient and explosive; a wonderful all-round team.
Why the Patriots might win?
Mike Vrabel. The head coach is just a year in the job, taking a team that won four games in 2024 and transforming them into a Super Bowl team without really overhauling the playing staff. If anyone can outwit Mike McDonald and the Seahawks, it’s him. He deserves every coaching award going this season.
What else is being discussed?
Quarterbacks usually dominate the tactical discussion pre-Super Bowl, but this year feels a little different. The Patriots’ Drake Maye had an MVP-worthy regular season, but he was quieter in the postseason as the Patriots ground opponents down. Sam Darnold has almost had the opposite, stepping up in the Playoffs after a good-but-not-elite regular season. It doesn’t feel like it’s all on the quarterbacks’ shoulders, but the stage is also set for one of them to step up and achieve greatness.
Other Super Bowl LX notes
Bad Bunny is the choice of Halftime Show performer, which became a bit of a political hot potato when it was announced in the fall. He’ll surely put on a show, regardless. The game gets underway at 3.30 pm local time in Santa Clara, meaning it has a 5.30 kickoff in New Orleans. You should also note that the game is a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX (2015), widely considered one of the best Super Bowls in NFL history. Let’s hope for something similar.
