Park expecting increased traffic, and visitorship, for holiday weekend
NEW ORLEANS – Due to anticipated increased attendance this weekend, as thousands of residents and visitors visit New Orleans City Park for the Crescent City Classic and for Easter celebrations, City Park Conservancy (CPC) will implement temporary traffic adjustments and modified operating hours to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
On Saturday, April 4, Roosevelt Mall will close at 5:30am to accommodate the Crescent City Classic, along with additional street closures (Marconi Avenue between City Park Avenue and Victory Avenue, City Park Avenue, Dreyfous Drive, Lelong Avenue and Friederichs Avenue) at 7am, with main roads expected to reopen between 12-1pm. Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, City Putt, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Storyland and Wheel Fun Rentals will delay opening until 12pm.
Several street closures will continue through Sunday, April 5 within the Tricentennial area (Victory Avenue, Dreyfous Drive, Anseman Avenue, Betty and Charles Turner Lane, and Stadium Drive) to accommodate the high volume of Park visitors. The City Park Train, Crescent City Farmers Market and Louisiana Children’s Museum will not operate on Easter Sunday.
CPC encourages visitors to bike or walk to the Park, if able, to help reduce congestion and create a better experience for all patrons. Additionally, as stewards of this beloved Park, CPC asks all visitors to help keep the Park clean by taking out what they bring in and leaving no litter behind.
Please note:
- Parking or driving is prohibited on grass, off roadways and on paved or unpaved jogging or bike paths
- Open flames are prohibited in City Park. Barbecue pits and grills are allowed but charcoal and hot material are not allowed in the trash. It is prohibited to dispose of or dump charcoal on Park grounds.
- Crawfish or seafood boils are prohibited in City Park
Complete CPC rules and policies can be found here. The most up-to-date information on Park notifications and closures can be found here, and – for general Park information – visit NewOrleansCityPark.org.
City Park has long served as a cultural and recreational heart of the city – a beloved greenspace where families gather, traditions are celebrated, and the community comes together. CPC thanks our community for caring for – and honoring – City Park as a space where culture, connection, and celebration thrives.

City Park is a popular place to fish on the bayou, picnic, experience safe outdoor play, or engage in athletic pursuits – as evidenced by more than 16 million visits each year. The Park’s annual operating budget is largely derived from self-generated activities, often weather dependent.
